There’s always challenges with updating older ho

There’s always challenges with updating older homes to be energy efficient, this one posed a couple of them. First, they recently completed interior Reno’s and ripping out the older 100 amp breaker panel wouldn’t be ideal. Second they don’t have a lot of clearance in the crawl space to accommodate a new 200 amp panel. Enter the @leviton_canada 200 amp, 20 circuit weather resistant panel. This will allow us to re-feed the existing panel as well as power a new ducted heat pump system with back up electric heat, and a new electric water heater.

More people are upgrading their electrical service

More people are upgrading their electrical services at home, rentals and businesses. Some are doing this to accommodate new heating and cooling systems others for electric cars. This service is now future proofed for the foreseeable future. We accomplished this by:
•Providing a new 200a overhead service in the garage (easy access for car chargers, more heat pumps, and possible hot tubs etc.
•Re-feeding the existing 100a service in the basement. By running a pipe that will be hidden in the summer months by bushes. This allowed us to keep the original house panel and means no interior mess/ patching of holes.
•With the new panel it makes this home ready for solar.

Nice blustery morning to redo some soffit pot lights in this tower, the pot lights were covered when the soffits were originally done. Crazy to think that the black hole off to the side was created by the old incandescent lamp burning through the Cape Cod wood. Happy to have caught this before it became a real issue and even happier to make this work for the client.

Today was all about prep.

•Install a 200Amp panel before the change over. (Put a temporary 100A breaker until change over)

•Repurpose the 100Amp panel for a generator.( we will be providing new panel schedules)

•Install a Generac transfer switch.

•Tidy up existing work.

This ensures the change over day goes much smoother and allows us to reduce waste by repurposing a perfectly fine panel.

First panel tie in of 2023, with the way things are going away from fossil fuels we are likely to see homes with multiple panels. I tend to stay away from putting tandem breakers in new installs if at all possible. This home has one spare space left when all is said and done.
